Amy Yang emigrated to the US from Vietnam in 1979. She is of Chinese descent, and was born in Vietnam. In Vietnam, she went to private schools to study both the Vietnamese and Chinese languages to keep up with her Chinese heritage.

During her years of learning the English language in the US, without having known any English at all, she says "I used to wish that my parents would have emigrated straight to the US, rather than taking a detour to Vietnam. However, now that I am able to help so many homebuyers with language barriers to reach the American dream of owning their own homes, I see the tremendous value of being bilingual."
